all good things come to an end

It was one of those "where were you when Kennedy was shot" moments.
A moment when an entire generation freezes in their tracks, where time stands still as your mind grapples with the incredulousness of what you have just heard. A community, a nation, a world join to collectively mourn the loss of one single man. A man who although most have never met, match his boy like face to the feel-good impact he has had on their daily lives. Workplace. Jogging route. Kitchen table. Seat 17D.

I was in early-morning-getting-ready-for-school-panic-mode when i entered my kitchen as my husband said: "Steve Jobs died last night" Everything suddenly went v e r y slowly. I had worried about the fate of Apple when I started noticing the change in his visual appearances in successive product launch videos. I secretly wondered to myself: "God, where will Apple be without Him?" Obviously, it was a selfish worry as my life is seamlessly intertwined with Apple products. As a graphic-designer, I have grown up alongside the company's growth and witnessed the change in our industry as it effortlessly adapted to Apple's intuitive user interface; evolved to the ongoing innovation of ever-better computer models; hungrily welcomed hard- and software updates and ultimately mastered the mobile extension thereof – the beloved iPhone (at last a mobile phone I could relate to!).

As with all great leaders, there are many great minds behind him. But somehow, I struggle to believe that Apple will manage to carry on with delivering equal innovation and design-forward thinking that Jobs single-handedly managed to make into a brand reality – changing how we live, work and connect with each other. Let's hope I'm wrong.

  1. My iPhone was responsible for delivery the sad news. It will be interesting to see what the future has in store for Apple..and I also hope you're wrong!
